getting personal....

so for a few days now i keep debating on whether or not i should blog about this or not. but my bff, jenna, always talks about things going on in her life and she has inspired me to do the same. thanks j and j! ok so here is my question..

well let me back up, long story short i have had a lot of surgeries in the past 5 years and i am pretty hollow inside and have a lot of scar tissue (no colon, gall bladder, appendix, left ovary or left fallorpian tube). so my female doctor, who is seriously amazing! (her name is susan steffen if your in the market and she comes to my yoga and pilates classes so she understands me) has been telling me i should be thinking about starting to get pregnant considering that my right ovary my not be up to par in a few years. so i am a little freaked out (thougtht i would be one of those who didn't even start trying for kids till 26) but i had a test done that can tell if your fallopian tube is blocked. mine is and filled with water.. not good.. can't get prego on my own, my only option is invtiro fertilization and will have to have this tube taken out as well.

now you know my history. now my question. last friday we went to see a doctor that dr. steffen reccommended and he was so smart and kind and great. He is a doctor from the Univeristy of Utah and he is up date and knows his facts. But, since I have been through the loop of medical surgeries, I think its always wise to get a second opinon and talk to another doctor ( yes i know he will say the same thing but before i go through this experience it would be nice). So ladies, 2 questions, #1 have you had to do invitro and if you so how was it (needles, do i need to say more scary!) and #2 do you know of any good reproductive endrocrinologists out there in utah that you or someone you know have gone too?

i don't even know if anyone even reads my blog but just thought i would just throw this out there. if i dont' know you and you have some advice please leave a comment, any suggestions are helpful and lets be honest we all look at blogs out there that aren't on our friend list right????

Liz. I don't know much about this personally, but I do know a blog that I stalk. (embarassed to admit...friend of James and Lindsey Swan if you know them) talks a ton about it. She just had twins and is in the Orem/Provo area. Apparently the doctor (Dave Richards) she worked with is insanely good. Read her blog back a few months and you can find more infomation. I would totally ask her if I were you. I have a feeling she knows what shes' talking about.

i think it's awesome you're posting something about YOU. There is so much good information out there you just have to ask! Good luck. Keep us (me) updated b/c no doubt you would be the best mom in the world!

So I've seen Jenna's blog and I read your story and I did the IVF drugs and then did an IUI that cycle and the drugs/needles were so mellow compared to clomid (the devil drug). The needles are so small I had to stop myself from laughing when my husband gave them to me. They really don't hurt at all! I think doing infertility stuff is awesome because they track your body and once you get pregnant, your baby too, so much more than a normal pregnancy it just made me feel so special and intune with my baby and body. Good luck with everything. Oh and I used Dr. Heiner and Dr. Blauer http://www.fertilitydr.com/ . I think the world of them and highly recommend their office!

Liz- I was given your blog info by Sarah who is friends with Jenna- I have recently experienced in vitro with the Reproductive Care Center in Sandy. I have had multiple surgeries too that have caused scarring and damage so I could not conceive any other way. I went through two cycles there. First cycle was a fresh cycle to harvest eggs and the second was a frozen cycle after the eggs were embryos. I am 3 weeks away from having my baby so it does work! I am more than happy to share any info with you and I believe this process needs as much support as you can get! I even have some needles and medications if you need them. Please email me directly (I can't find a contact for you on your blog) and I would love to share! Lisa.Knapton@gmail.com All the best, Lisa

Oh Liz, bless your heart, and the rest of your body! I didn't know any of this! And unfortunately I don't have any experience or advice, but I can definitely pray for you!

Oh man girl I am so sorry. Wow. The worst thing that ever happened to me was birth control (IUD) and I can't imagine invitro. Best of luck and if I come across anything like that, I'll let you know.

See you at pilates next week?

Liz, thanks for sharing. I go to a Dr. up at UofU so if you want I can give you his info but it might be a good idea to get a second opinion from someone in a different office. Good luck with everything, you are amazing!

i'm a little late to the comments - but one of my friends has been struggling with infertility (different reasons) for awhile. they are on their second round of IVF and have a blog. i thought i'd pass along the blog address, as sometimes it can be helpful/encouraging to hear someone else's story.

best of luck to you and your husband!
